Energy: Belarus: Heading Off An Energy Disaster

BELARUS IS CAUGHT IN an energy crisis that has led to a decline in every sector of its economy. The republic depends on its northeastern neighbor, Russia, for 90 percent of its energy supplies. But Belarus has been unable to meet the cost of the energy it consumes since Russia began raising its prices for natural gas and oil to world levels, and one result of the imbalance has been more and more Belarusian debt.
