Slovakia: An Education System in Chaos

SLOVAKIA’S EDUCATION policy has been hindered in several ways during the post-communist years, including a rapid succession of eight ministers of education and science since 1989. The sector has also been troubled by a lack of money and the resulting “brain drain,” as many of the most able teachers and scientists have left to find work elsewhere. Less qualified teachers have replaced them, creating a situation that could have a significant effect on the country’s future.
