ROMANIA: Changing of the Guard at National Radio

THE STATE-RUN Romanian Radio Company (SRR), which has had a reputation for relatively unbiased reporting, has a new managerial board – and perhaps a new orientation. On 4 October, the new 12-man board was officially installed at the company’s headquarters in Bucharest. Tudor Catineanu, an aesthetics professor from Cluj who reportedly enjoys the full confidence and support of the ruling Party of Social Democracy in Romania (PDSR), was picked to head the board. Parliament had earlier validated his appointment in a 267-128 vote at a joint session of its two houses on 27 September.1
