THE PRIME MINISTER OF BOSNIA-Herzegovina, Haris Silajdzic, submitted his resignation on 3 August, only to withdraw it seven days later. The episode shook the Bosnian political scene more than seemed evident at first glance. Silajdzic’s withdrawal of his resignation meant that he had defeated the opposing hardline faction within the governing Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and that Silajdzic’s government had succeeded, in a short time, in impeding the SDA forces seeking to run Bosnia from behind the scenes.
