ACCORDING TO A SAYING from the communist era: "When an apple grows up, it falls down; when a politician falls down, he grows up." In recent years, many Polish politicians whose careers suffered traumatic downturns quickly published books, often interviews, explaining how they were right and their enemies wrong. Such books present not only authors' attitudes and feelings but also a few facts - described with less ommissions and understatements than politicians are usually inclined to use.
