THE CAMPAIGN LEADING up to the 5 November presidential election has dominated Polish politics this fall. Of the 17 officially registered candidates, none seems poised to win the majority of votes in the first round, which would necessitate a second race between the two leading contenders on 19 November. Of the official candidates, three, including the incumbent, Lech Walesa, have a real chance of advancing to the second round.
