THREE YEARS AFTER THE END OF COMmunist rule, the Albanian media reflect the dominant trends in Albanian society: a lot of politics, rumors, and personal attacks. While attempts have been made to create media independent of party affiliations and governmental control and influence, financial constraints, legal barriers, and a lack of professionalism among journalists have left the press a politicized and unreliable conduit for information. Strict state control of radio and television further complicates the move to an independent media.
